Making your own instant rice is super easy!
There has been many times where I wished I had an instant meal I could throw together at home, but with my dietary restrictions, I don’t always get that luxury.
So having some instant rice on hand, can help take away the stress of needing to come up with a quick and cheap meal.
I plan on using this instant rice in soups and for making quick meals, but it will also be great for camping trips and vacations! It’s also a wonderful way to preserve leftovers for another day.
Making Instant Rice at Home
You will need a dehydrator for this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of uncooked rice*
- 2 Cups of Water
*Choose whatever type of rice you want to make (rice, brown, ect), and adjust the water to rice ratios accordingly.

- Wash and prepare your rice according to its cooking instructions. Allow rice to cool slightly, until you are able to handle it.

- Set your dehydrator between 122°-125°F, and set up your dehydrator trays. You may use parchment paper if the holes in your trays are too big to hold the rice.
- Spread your cooled rice out onto the dehydrator trays into a thin layer.

- Dehydrate for about 8 hours, until completely dry and the rice snaps when broken.

- Break up the rice, and store in an air tight container until ready to use.

To Re-hydrate

The rice is re-hydrated with a 1:1 ratio. You may need to play around with the amount of water used, and soaking time, depending on your preferences and type of rice used.
- Add the amount of rice you wish to re-hydrate to a heat safe bowl. I’m using 1/4 cup.
- Add the same amount of boiling hot water to the bowl, making sure the rice is submerged.
- Cover, and allow rice to soak, for 3 minute. Stir the rice, cover again, and soak for another 3 minutes.

Enjoy!
