As a homemaker, I have found that there always seems to be something else to do. It’s a never ending list of chores hovering over my head every day! On the other hand, sometimes I just don’t know where to start, or what I need to be doing.
That is why I made this simple list of daily chores.
These daily tasks can easily be assigned to different members of your household, delegating the daily chores a little more so that you’re not trying to take on absolutely everything. And if the need arises, you can change up the daily chores week by week, depending on what works best for you and your family!
My Daily Chores
Obviously there’s more to keeping a house clean than these seven things, but this is a great start to getting into a cleaning schedule and out of paralyzing overwhelm.
I’ve also made you a printable checklist down below, so you can have the satisfaction of seeing your progress with each check mark!
1. Make the Bed

Making the bed (or beds) is a simple, and quick task that often gets forgotten about- after all what’s the point? Well, making the bed daily, isn’t for others, it’s for you! I know that I sleep so much better if my blankets aren’t squished up and all over the place.
When you make your bed, you may be helping to reduce stress by creating a clean, and calming environment in your room, giving a small sense of accomplishment.
Plus, who doesn’t love the welcome of a nice made bed at the end of the day?
2. 15-Minute Pick-up
It’s quick and easy to do! Just set a 15 minute timer, and start putting away any clutter you see around your house. Remember, you’re not trying to do a deep clean here, just a little straightening up will do.
I didn’t think 15 minutes a day would be enough at first, but when I do it everyday, I find that I’m often finished before my timer goes off. If you try this and 15 minute isn’t enough, test out a few other amounts of time, to find what works best for you! You can even break up the time throughout the day, depending on your needs.
Sometimes, when I’m really far behind in housework, I’ll set a 15-minute timer for each room in my house that I want to focus on. Doing this, I’ve realized that it doesn’t always take 15 minute to clean a room!
3. A Load of Laundry

I would much rather do 1 or 2 loads of laundry a day than try to do all of our laundry in one day. It doesn’t take near as long to wash, dry, fold, and put away just one load then I thought it would. And since laundry is one of my least favorite chores to do, breaking it up over the week really helps me to not get overwhelmed trying to get it all done at once.

4. Take out the Trash
You might not have to do this every day, but it can be helpful to check all the trash cans in your house daily. This includes the tiny ones, that may get overlooked until they become an overflowing mess.
I try to do this towards the end of the day, so that anything I have to throw away that might have an odor (e.g, cat litter, rotten potatoes) won’t sit over night. This is one way to help keep your home smelling fresh!
5. Tidy the Kitchen and Dinning Room Table

No matter what is going on in our lives, keeping the kitchen tidy, is something I see as an absolute must! I do a lot of cooking everyday, and I find it very stressful to not have a clean kitchen while trying to put dinner on the table.
Although it may not get done every day, having our table clear for dinner is so comforting to me. It allows my husband and I to sit together without distraction. We get to enjoy our meal and each others company, so this is always high on my priority list.
6. Sweep and Spot Clean Floors
Somehow when my floors are clean I can feel it. It may not seem like a big deal to keep up with cleaning the floors but it really does make a difference. On a daily bases I focus on sweeping and using my spray mop to spot clean the kitchen floor. Everywhere else, I just do as needed or on their dedicated cleaning day. (Which we’ll talk about more in another post!)
7. The Pets Area
For some reason, if I don’t have this daily chore written down, I’ll forget about until I can’t anymore. And very few things can make your home smell worse than an overcrowd litter box! (I’m speaking from experience here).
This chore may look different for you if you have different pets or none at all. You may want to use this section of time to clean another small area in your home. Such as a play room, work desk, or hobby area.
Bonus Daily Chores: As Needed

These are things I keep up with on a as needed bases. They don’t have dedicated cleaning day or needs done daily.
- Water Plants– Based on your plants needs! If I don’t have this written down, I’ll forget.
- Vacuum Area Rugs– Some days they get more dirty than others.
- Wipe Down Bathroom Sink & Toilet– for us, this needs to be done more than once a week, so I do it whenever I see it needs done.
- Restock Toiletries – e.g, toilet paper, cotton balls, cotton swabs, hand soap.
