Plus, if you have any allergies or food restrictions, you run the risk of not being able to find some that you can have. So why not make some homemade jerky?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This recipe comes from my grandfather, Pappy, who would make large batches of deer jerky after one of his hunting trips. We don&#8217;t go deer hunting, yet, but I really enjoy using the same recipe for beef&#8230;.with a few changes to match my own dietary restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I miss my grandparents dearly, so in honor of Pappy, today we are making homemade beef jerky.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pappy&#8217;s Homemade Beef Jerky:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Making jerky can be a great way to reduce food waste, but if you&#8217;re looking for more tips, <a href=\"https:\/\/ahomemakersworkmanship.com\/?p=1419\">Click Here!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>5 lbs of lean Beef or Venison<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1 tsp. of the following &#8211; salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1\/3 cup Worcestershire sauce.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1\/4 cup coconut aminos or soy sauce. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*Disclaimer: <\/strong>You can make jerky out of almost any type of meat you want. These instructions will work for beef or deer meat. If you want to use something else, like chicken, you will need to research preparation and dry times to make sure you are taking the proper safety measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pick and Prepare your meat.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pick a lean cut of meat<\/strong>, such as New York strip, London broil, or flank steaks. Fat does not dry, and the more fatty your cut of meat, the more quickly the jerky will spoil. You can see  lines running through the meat, this is the direction of the grain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this roast, you see how the grain of the beef runs from left to right. If you cut your beef a little on the thin side, when it&#8217;s done drying, it will snap. Don&#8217;t be afraid to dry longer if needed, or if you&#8217;re unsure if they&#8217;re ready or not.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the meat is dry, as an extra safety measure, <strong>bake on a cookie sheet in a 275\u00b0F oven for 10-15 minutes.<\/strong> This helps to make sure the meat is completely dry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large to keep homemade jerky for long term, but it can be kept in the pantry for up to 1 month, in the refrigerator for up to 6 months or in the freezer for up to 1 year.<\/p>\n\n\n<div I used a 13\u00d79 pan.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Mix together the Worcestershire sauce, coconut aminos\/soy sauce, and spices.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-5\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Pour the mixture over the prepared meat, and massage into the meat, making sure to get every piece covered. <\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-6\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Cover, and let it rest in the fridge for at least 8 hours or overnight. <\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-7\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Spread the meat slices onto dehydrator trays in a single layer, allowing a little space in between the pieces for air to flow around them.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-8\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Dehydrate between 155-160\u00b0F for 6-8 hours. <\/span><div class=\"wprm-spacer\"><\/div><span style=\"display: block;\">The meat should bend and have no signs of redness. If you cut your beef a little on the thin side, when it&#39;s done drying, it will snap. Don&#39;t be afraid to dry longer if needed, or if you&#39;re unsure if they&#39;re ready or not.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-9\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Once the meat is dry, bake on a cookie sheet in a 275\u00b0F oven for 10-15 minutes. This helps to make sure the meat is completely dry.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-1947-step-0-10\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Allow your jerky to cool completely before storing in an airtight container, or vacuum sealed bag. <\/span><div class=\"wprm-spacer\"><\/div><span style=\"display: block;\">Store for up to 1 month in the pantry, 6 months in the  fridge, or 1 year in the freezer.<\/span><\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<div id=\"recipe-video\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"recipe-1947-notes\" class=\"wprm-recipe-notes-container wprm-block-text-normal\"><h3 class=\"wprm-recipe-header wprm-recipe-notes-header wprm-block-text-uppercase wprm-align-left wprm-header-decoration-line\" style=\"\">Notes<div class=\"wprm-decoration-line\" style=\"border-color: #e0e0e0;\"><\/div><\/h3><div class=\"wprm-recipe-notes\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Pick a lean cut of meat, such as New York strip, London broil, or flank steaks. Fat does not dry, and the more fatty your cut of meat, the more quickly the jerky will spoil.
